It's almost 1999, and many of us are thinking about our resolutions for the next year. In fact, the diet industry takes one of our most common resolutions to the bank. (And they do it again each year, because of the extremely high failure rate)
What I propose to you, are some ways you can make 1999 a year to remember. 1) Be good to yourself. You deserve it. Stop berating yourself for not fitting some unrealistic ideal. You will never be Barbra Streisand, or Cindy Crawford.(unless of course you ARE Babs, or Cindy, in which case, thanks for reading my column :)) Eating is not a sin. Be good to your body, by giving it what it needs. Indulge your need for crisp green vegetables, and chocolate fudge sundaes. 2) Be good to your loved ones. If you love a person of size, accept them the way they look right now. They have wonderful bodies that are capable of amazing things. Stop and think about what a fascinatingly diverse species we are. Don't nag and wheedle them to diet. Their size is not yours to dictate, or judge. 3) Be good to your clients, customers, and others you meet in your work. If you have a business with seating, make sure there are a few sturdy, armless chairs. Your customers/patients/clients will feel welcome. 4) Be good to the Size Acceptance movement. Notice when offenses are made, and take action. Fat prejudice is still the norm, just watch a few late night talk shows. If something bothers you, write a letter, make a speech, do something. 5) Be good to the planet. Make your mark this year by helping to right a wrong. Volunteer your time, expertise, or money to a cause in which you believe, or an unmet need. Everything helps. Have a Happy New Year. Go To Page: 1
