In the past ten years several successful, excellent and enormously funny sitcoms have ended. Golden Girls in 1992, Cheers in 1993, Wings in 1997, Seinfield in 1998, and 3rd Rock from the Sun just this year? In all honesty Frasier, Drew Carey Show, Whose Line is it Anyway, and Friends are the only sitcoms left that appeal to me. I watched Bob Patterson once and According to Jim. Quite frankly those shows as well as Three Sisters base their comic situation on babies and family life. For me not having kids or much of a family, it does not interest me one bit. For people with kids who live that lifestyle they may be good shows.
I prefer Seinfield, Wings, Cheers, and Golden Girls. These situation comedies concentrate on sarcasm, mocking, and embarrassing situations. Why these shows were cancelled I have no clue. I also do not understand how Ally McBeal is supposed to be a comedy. I watch it from time to time and it is based more on drama shown in an odd way, not in a humorous way. You can't compare it to Seinfield and when Ally McBeal was put into the same category as Seinfield was for the 1998 Emmy Awards Show I was stunned. Sorry but you can't combine them into being the same type of humor. What's worse is that they won. I am not saying Ally McBeal isn't good. I have enjoyed some of the shows, I am saying that it can't be compared to sitcoms because Ally McBeal isn't one in my opinion. Friends is losing its appeal to me. This week Rachel went out on a date and when her date found out she was pregnant he walked. She bought twenty candy bars to eat or rather binge and encountered Ross at the news stand by the coffee shop they hang out at. He asks Rachel to go there with him to talk, she says no, changes her mind, and to her surprise she sees Ross with Mona. Mona is the woman he met at Chandler and Monica's wedding. Rachel of course sees this and is disappointed. This entire situation is completely stupid. I really hope the writer's will work harder to make the story line work because right now they are blowing it. This means it will be the last year Friends will be on. The Drew Carey Show has not lost its appeal. This week everything came out. Drew's marriages to Nikki and Kate were not valid because he is still legally married to Mr. Wick. Throughout the entire show they referred to Drew as, "The Impotent, Bisexual Bigamist." It was so funny I couldn't stop laughing. Drew is trying to win Kate's friendship back. He bought ad space on buses but of course that got messed up. Drew wanted the ad on every bus so he shared space with another advertiser. Unfortunately it was about child abuse and it was put in such a way to where Kate's picture was more on that ad. Thus she became known as a child beater. She was dating a news reporter and he dumped her because of the ad. At the end of the show Kate turned into Bruce Lee and kicked the crap out of Drew. She then said, "I feel a little better now. By far this sitcom is the best on TV at the moment. I will try to watch different ones in the up coming months. Go To Page: 1 2
