Pill popping, pot smoking, cocaine snorting middle aged childhood friends stumble their way through life making everything an adventure. Yes this TV series pushes certain issues over the line and even crosses that line but as tasteless as it may seem to some people, you can not ignore the talented cast, writers, and creativity of this series.
Let's face it, drugs are a part of life, wherever you live and they do not discriminate, whether it be smoking cigarettes, drinking wine or the use of some other substances, society can not avoid these matters. This show adds other addictive substances and morbid, twisted themes so viewer discretion is advised.
As an artist, I see this show taking serious life threatening issues, as well as highly dysfunctional situations, and showing these issues and situations in a comical way. The characters laugh in the face of immortality. The show pokes fun and puts a different and unique spin on life's problems. For instance Absolutely Fabulous approaches situations so differently, that closed minded, judgmental people would perhaps call it warped and sick. Some people would not be able to get past the seriousness of the situation or issue, which is fine, they don't have to watch the show. This TV sitcom does not handle problems or issues in a religious way, such as getting back to sobriety through God, dealing with the problem by critical people who stand on their soap box lecturing, or in a tear jerking manner in which everyone, "sees the light." This shows approach is entirely the opposite.
