Okay, maybe not an ideal place to meet people (myself, I tend to ignore those around me and concentrate on the task at hand), but I know a few women who have met and dated men they work out with. You have to be pretty body-confident to pull this off. You may not end up with a date per se, but you just might gain a workout partner. Grocery Store This always seemed an odd suggestion to me, but friends swear by it. In Dallas, we have a few “meet markets” ourselves. The Old Town Tom Thumb and the Tom Thumb in Valley Ranch have been known to be places where you shouldn’t just “run for some milk” without seriously thinking about what you will be wearing to the store. At least you’ll get an idea of what he likes to eat (and whether or not he cleans up after himself). That is, of course, unless he is like you and is hiding the Ding Dongs and chocolate chip cookie dough under that bag of fresh spinach and box of fresh pasta. Dog Park If my little one weren’t afflicted with seizures and could handle the excitement of the dog park (yes, my city finally has one!), I would take him. Again, like with volunteering at the SPCA in your community, you will meet guys whose pooch is the love of their lives. And you can find out how well your “kiddos” will get along! Dance Classes Even for those sure-footed gals out there, learning to dance can be an enjoyable pursuit. Ballroom dancing is intricate, gives you better coordination, and looks very impressive at weddings. Unfortunately, there are usually more women in the classes than men. Sporting Events Need I say more? By the way, I met my boyfriend outside my office building while drinking a beer. Sounds weird? He showed up with a friend of a friend to catch a free lift to the Byron Nelson (our building had shuttles and beer for those waiting). In our city, the BN is one of THE places to meet other singles. I just happened to meet mine without actually having to attend. Bobbie Mostyn, author of “Where Are The Men – 712 Places You Haven’t Thought To Look”, was fed up with the bar scene and began seeking out other ways in which to meet eligible men. After years of keeping notes about what did and didn’t work, she wrote a book. Nine places are listed on her website and her book includes 703 more:
