New Series
I have to be creative when it comes to finding ways to entertain my ten-year old son. He used to be so easy to please back when he was younger! An empty box could keep him busy for hours. Nowadays, an empty box is just empty! Recently, Wyatt and I have been spending time trying to figure out the silly side to some of life's more mundane objects. We explored the joys of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich. We found excitement in our backyard critter searches and we also investigated the other "dark" side of comic book heroes! I had so much fun looking into the mundane, I decided to create a series of articles devoted to our search for finding fun in everyday things. What's in StoreThe first item we chose to investigate was your friend and mine--toilet paper! Yup, we wanted to see how people feel about toilet paper, learn the history of toilet paper and also find out anything quirky or silly about this very useful object. I think you'll find the articles informative, amusing and helpful. You may even be inspired to go looking for the story behind your favorite mundane object. Some other items on our list are:
Spending time with my son on this project has taught us a lot. He is learning how to research using the computer and library resources, not to mention improving his writing skills. I am learning what things interest my son. He is also learning about history, anthropology, and other fields he may be interested to study in college. He loves to share his newfound knowledge with his friends who find the information fascinating. I hope to show how spending time with your family doesn't always mean going out and spending money. Fun can be found in the most mundane things and you'll be amazed at how much your kids will love looking into the silly side of everyday things.
