teenager. I
can only hope I stay connected with my son when he wants to start pulling away
from me, as he inevitably will, when he enters his teenage years (which are only 4
short years away!). I work hard at keeping the lines of communication open
between us and we talk about everything under the sun. It's just the two of us
and we have values and morals that help us behave decently in public and in
private.
I have faith this will stick with him when he starts becoming more
influenced by his peer group. It's just so scary for me to think of him having
to go to junior high and high school...because I was taunted during those years
in my life. I hope it will be different for him. It's hard letting go even now
when he wants to assert his independence...because I can't protect him from
everything...however, I can give him the tools he'll need to protect himself, and I can continue to talk with him, and pray
that all of those things will be enough...
