I am urging anyone out there who is able to please contribute to this worthy cause. I am sending a cheque for $10, and urge others to match or exceed this amount. Even a single dollar will help a single mome. Very, very few of my readers couldn't muster $1.00 plus postage.

I'll keep you updated on the progress of this worthy cause. Please let them know that you heard about it from my site, and SPREAD THE WORD!

Raise the Nation with $1 Initiative Aims to Educate Every Single Mom Nationwide

A pioneering website, www.Raisethenation.org, has announced it’s commitment to an ambitious goal of financing the education of every single parent woman and their children nationwide. The organization’s latest initiative is calling on single moms and their friends and family to make a pocket-sized donation of just $1 to collectively raise more than 13 million dollars.

Since the launch of Raise the Nation using only word of mouth marketing just a few months ago, the organization is already flooded with applications and letters from all over the country.

Co-executive Director, Tere McDowell is a single parent woman who knows the issues single mothers face firsthand. She describes Raise the Nation as a source of real opportunity for single moms where they need it the most—the ability to earn an income that provides a higher standard of living for themselves and their children. “If the “It takes a village…” notion has any credence—as I firmly believe it does—then calling on single moms and their loved ones to unite is the way to make it work,” says McDowell.

According to Raise the Nation, there are over 13 million single-parent women raising 20 million children under the age of 18 in this country. “The struggle for most of our applicants is the sudden loss of a second income and inability to collect child support. Our average applicant is in her thirties and pursuing a second degree, career change or advanced training. We have a population that is many times misinterpreted as young, poor and uneducated...perhaps because of the way the media portrays single mothers. We have found that less than 5% of single parent women are teenagers and less than 11% are unemployed” states Stephen Mullens, CEO.

“The majority of single-parent women are hard-working professional, educated women striving to better both their lives and their families’ lives,” states Kristina Lynn, Raise the Nation co-executive director. Recent studies support Lynn, finding that 59 percent of single-parent women pursue and attain higher education, compared to 46 percent of their married-parent women counterparts.
