Father's Rights - Part 1all liars who make this stuff up to be vindictive (termed Parental Alienation Syndrome). (There are isolated cases of false accusations of abuse, but this is true for ANY crime, and the number of false allegations are low. But, misogyny underlies much of the father's rights movement and is found far too frequently in the courtroom.) In one case a child and his mother tried in vain to bring the details of the abuse to the courts attention, but the court, "griped" in the propaganda of the father's rights movement, refused to hear it. The judge ordered the child have increased contact with the father, and ordered him to "ENJOY" it. (termed "threat therapy") This child ended up killing himself, rather than face this untenable situation. In two other local cases, two different women this past year were both ordered to let the KNOWN abuser back into their home because of the "father's rights" to visitation. Both of these women are NOW DEAD KILLED - IN FRONT of their CHILDREN. This was done despite their desperate pleas, by the SAME female judge. She apparently didn't learn anything about domestic violence after the death of the first woman! How many women must die before we say that if you are abusive to the mother of your children, you lose your rights to continue to abuse her and her children? (Witnessing spousal abuse IS child abuse. Studies show that kids who witness abuse are more likely than kids who were abused themselves to become violent in the future. It is a long known fact that witnessing another being abused is harder than actually being abused yourself. During wartime, captors knew that forcing someone to witness the torture of another worked better (at getting classified information) than torturing the person from whom they were seeking the information. Children witnessing their mother being abused experience this same horror, and blame themselves for not being able to prevent it. My four year old blamed herself for not calling 911, one full year after the incident when she first learned about 911 in her kindergarten class. Despite reassuring her that she couldn't possibly have done anything to prevent the abuse, she still blamed herself. I want to make this very, very clear. I am not against fathers. I am against a movement that idealizes fathers, a movement which fails to note that ALL fathers are NOT created EQUAL.
