Thanksgiving 2004

I came across a little piece of unknown origin that really got me to thinking. I hope that you find it of some use this Thanksgiving. It reminds me of the old Garth Brooks song about being thankful for unanswered prayers. For anyone who doesn't know - the song is about the fact that the singer prayed to hook-up with one woman in particular, but it never happened. In the end, the singer realizes that he is now married to this wonderful, terrific woman - but if God had answered his original request, he would not be with this great woman. Sometimes we really should be thankful for unanswered prayers--for the things that we don't have. Read on, and you will see what I mean.

BEING THANKFUL

Be thankful you don't already have everything you desire. If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don't know something, For it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times. During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations, Because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge, Because it will build your strength and character. Be thankful for your mistakes, They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you are tired and weary, Because it means you've made an effort.

It's easy to be thankful for the good things. A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks.

Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.

Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, And they will become your blessings.

I hope you use this Thanksgiving to really examine your life situation and truly be thankful.

Please don't just count your blessings - be proactive and make your blessings count! Go out there and make someone else's life better. Recognize that by virtue of your privilege - you are in a position to help someone else. No kindness is too small.

Don't think you are privileged? Everyone reading this is privileged in one way or another. Some more than others - this is true - but don't take for granted what you already have - don't take for granted the people you love. Please take every opportunity that you have to practice random acts of kindness. Work at simply making another person know that they are important. To my mind, it isn't the material things that make our life rich--it is the connections we make with other people.
