Let My Children Go! Journey On The Trail of Tears Event Information

The Let My Children Go! Journey On the Trail of Tears" is a public outcry for the protection of abused children. From June 20 to July 29, 2004, the 518-mile, 40-day walk, sponsored by Kourts for Kids, will change lives, not only of those participating but primarily the lives of abused children who depend on adults and family courts of America to protect them. This will be an unforgettable and invaluable experience.

Here is some specific information regarding our "Journey On The Trail Of Tears" this summer. It is important that everyone who will be participating in the walk register so that we know how many people will need to be housed and fed.

What are the sleeping and meal arrangements?

Sleeping arrangements are being made now. We are hoping to have most, if not all, of our sleeping arrangements and breakfast and dinner provided by members of church congregations. Each participant will be responsible for the cost of his or her own lunch and snacks each day. You may want to bring energy bars to eat along the way. You will need to bring a sleeping bag or bedroll and a pillow for the possibility of sleeping on the floor of a church or at a camping ground. Those of you who own a tent may want to bring it as well. We will have all the sleeping arrangements made prior to the event, so we will know if tents are needed and how many. There may be a few nights stay at very inexpensive hotels along the way ($25-$30). In that event, you will need to plan on the expense of dinner and breakfast as well.

All tents, sleeping bags, personal items, etc. will be carried in a van that will accompany us along the trip.

What else should you bring?

Please pack lightly. We will provide you with "Journey On The Trail Of Tears" event T-shirts to wear along the walk. Other items you should pack include: shorts, pants, underclothes, extra pair of shoes and socks, and personal items such as razor, brush, deodorant, menstrual pads, and hairdryer. You should also bring soap, shampoo, and a towel. Wear comfortable well-fitted shoes that have already been broken in. (The #1 complaint of people who walk for charities is the blisters they form from wearing improper or new shoes.) Remember
