Well, I did it folks. I made a third trip down the aisle and joined the married ranks. My new bride and I were married on October 14th. My wife and I were talking about our union and she asked me this… “So, how will our marriage affect your writing?” It was a good question since much of my writing has been dedicated to single parenting, including this site. After thinking about it a bit I realized my writing doesn’t have to change, I simply have more avenues to explore. My experiences of a single father will not be forgotten because I have a new partner and I will continue to write about them. I also have new roads to explore and write about as my four children and two new stepchildren are blended into a family unit.
My wife and I don’t have blinders on and we know the road ahead will not be without bumps, curves, hills, slick spots, rough spots, etc. Taking two unique families and putting them together is a tremendous task, albeit a rewarding one. Over the last two years we have been working toward this so our kids were excited and supportive. But that of course was yesterday and tomorrow may yield different opinions, as a novel idea became reality. I can’t wait to see what the future holds. With my marriage I gained another teenage daughter aged 15, and son age 11. My wife is holding her breath thinking about the teenage years that lie ahead and is looking to me as a voice of experience since I have three kids that are in or have been in their teens in addition to my eleven year old. I can only look at her and smile… and wince a little. Fasten your seat belts, put up your trays and make sure your seat back is in it’s upright position… it’s going to be a fun ride. Stay tuned. Until next time… ~mikee
