The past few months have been very trying for me. When I am not writing, I can be found working in the computer field as a Technical Consultant primarily working with large IBM mainframe technology. I'm sure all of you have heard the commotion over Y2K or the Year 2000 and it's effect on many computer systems. Well, my company is just as concerned about being prepared as any. We are working very hard to ensure that there will be no glitches when the century rolls over and that is eating up a considerable amount of my time.
Oh, and yes, I am still a single parent. Let's see, what are the ages now? 19, 17, 14, 9... What was I thinking? Actually, the 19 year-old has moved into an apartment of her own now which I think make's me lose more sleep than when she was home. The 17 year-old will graduate this year and likely move in with her sister. The parties will probably be advertised in the USA Today, along with a disclaimer to send all lawsuits to Dad. Meanwhile I have a 14 year-old son at home who has more hormones raging than Bill Clinton. Bill may even be his hero right now. Like I said, it's kind of scary. My 9 year-old lives with her mom but has really put on the pressure for me to make more time available for her this year. I really need to squeeze more hours out of the day.
Oh, and I have a girlfriend who has two children of her own, ages 10 and 13. Yep, my life wasn't complicated enough. Actually, this lady has been a breath of fresh air for my children and I. Our relationship was a long time coming and something I was very careful with when it came to my children. That is one of the subjects I hope to write about as I go forward. Many people have asked me about dating as a single parent and the struggles they have with their children when they do so. It can be done folks and nobody needs to lose or feel left out in the process.
