Here Kit-y Kit-y

There are few things more frustrating than not having what you need in a pinch. Kits are a great way to keep everything you need for a task or event in one convenient place. Here are some kits you may want to assemble to make life run a little more smoothly.

  • Small sewing kit
  • Tape for hems
  • Extra buttons
  • Shoe shine kit
  • Lint brush
  • Super glue for quick shoe repairs

  • Dry snacks and bottled water for long commutes or breakdowns
  • Tissues
  • Baby wipes (small packs are available wherever sample sizes are sold.)
  • Pen & paper

Cleaning: All of these things will fit into a carrying caddy that you can transport from room to room.
  • Abrasive cleaner
  • Grease cutting spray
  • Window cleaner (or a package of those new wipes)
  • Dusting wipes
  • Toothbrush
  • Gloves
  • Toilet bowl cleaner
  • Paper towels

Writing/journaling: This can make a wonderful gift in a nice basket. Or you can treat yourself with a small decorative tin or basket filled with everything you need to muse on paper. It’s also nice to keep your letter writing items here.
  • Paper or book
  • Pen
  • Dictionary
  • Markers
  • Candles/music to get you in the mood
  • Envelopes
  • Stationery
  • Note cards
  • Calendar (for listing all important dates to remember)
  • Stamps
  • Address book

Purse:
  • Notepad and pen
  • Calendar
  • Tissues
  • Pocket sewing kit with miniature scissors
  • Mirror
  • Analgesics
  • Emergency phone numbers
  • Calling card or credit card
  • Fingernail file
  • Pepper spray or other self-defense items

Travel: Whether you're taking a day trip or two week vacation, there are things that you need anytime you hit the highway. All these things can fit into a milk crate of other small box and store in a corner of the trunk or in the back seat.
    • Journal
    • Map
    • Camera
    • Flashlight with good batteries
    • Transistor radio with good batteries
    • Emergency car kit (with flares, jumper cables, etc.)
    • First aid kit
    • Snacks
    • Games and toys (for everyone)
    • Copies of important documents
    • Compass
    • Pre-paid phone card for emergencies (the rates are a lot less than your long-distance carrier’s calling card rates)
    • Extra cash (including change for any toll roads you encounter)

Be creative in how you store your supplies, making the most use of space while providing easy access.

While these lists are not comprehensive, you can take them and customize to fit your specific needs. And don’t forget to mark you calendar to check freshness, and replace perishables and batteries as needed. You’ll be surprised how often you will use the things you now have at your fingertips. And you’ll be a lot less stressed too.
