Keep the Warm Air In and The Cold Air Out© Debbie DeSpirt

The cold air chills my bones in a moment. The cold front has arrived in Southern Ontario and now the doors and windows are sealed shut to maintain perfect climatic living indoors. Funds are limited and fashion is a must in our home. This year my creative mind went to work and I have found a few old tricks that truly do work and will take little time and money. Enjoy and keep warm this fall/winter season. TOP TEN LIST FOR KEEPING WARM INDOORS
- Place blinds on all your windows. The blinds keeps the cold out and are easy to maintain. I prefer the flat blinds that are cut to size at any hardware store, they collect little dust and are easy to clean.
- Blinds are not enough, put drapes on all windows. That's expensive you say, no longer. Head to the nearest fabric store and have some fun. Go the remnants pile or to the fabric that is on sale. Do not buy regular price all material will go on sale keep checking the flyers. The first step is to measure the length and width of the window. With that information a sales associate will be able to tell you the metres of material needed for each window. You want to buy at least 2.5 times the length, do not scrimp on material. The fuller the material the nicer it looks. You have purchased the material and now want it up in a hurry. If you already have the rods you are laughing. Clip the material to the rod and worry about the sewing on a later date. With the extra material no one will notice the hems or seams. My bedroom was transformed with $30.0, the drapes look great and they keep the bustling wind outdoors. I also have a blind on the window. The fabric store is great fun, enjoy and do not worry if you cannot sew.
- Buy a couple metres of polar fleece with a pretty pattern. Do not pay full price wait for a sale. Drape the fleece over you and one child sitting on your lap. Cut the material. There is no need to sew an edge right away take a year or two. The fleece is warm and looks great. During the day it is draped over the chair or couch to give a nice decorative look and warms our bodies when watching tv or reading a nice book.
