Breathing is an incredible gift that many of us take for granted each day. Breathing is an involuntary act that requires no effort on the participant's part. Each day we wake, going about our business forgetting that breathing is so vital to our well being. There are hundreds of books on diet, exercise, and self -help but limited literature on the benefits of proper breathing. Each moment of the day our breathing alters depending on our mood, exercise level and our food choices. When you are having a low day, your breathing is usually long and slow and the opposite is true when you are running to catch the bus. Eliminating a great deal of stress and promoting better health is just a breath away. Each morning before you place your beautiful feet on the floor to begin the day. Spend an extra 3 minutes in bed doing this exercise to eliminate toxins and bring fresh air into your lungs. Lay on your back, and close your eyes. Take a good deep breath from your nose with your mouth closed, and feel this breath all over your body. Release the breath through your mouth by blowing out slowly, and continue blowing out until most of the air is released. Do this exercise 10 times and then begin your day. You have just given your body good clean oxygen and allowed many toxins to be released. This breathing exercise is a great start for the day. Everybody is different, be sure to use caution when doing any new exercise even a breathing exercise. If this is too difficult start with 2 a day and increase to 10 a day. After this exercise, most people are off to the showers and are quickly running around the house to organize their stuff for the day. Lunches need to be prepared, schoolbags packed and a quick breakfast with a good cup of hot coffee before everyone is running out of the house for the day. Slowing down is the best thing for the body and for you to have a more productive day. This entire running around is hard on the body and in less than an hour your body is trying to catch up by resting at work or in school. Each morning, before or after breakfast, set aside 5 minutes to do the energy breath. This breath can be done throughout the day when you are feeling sluggish and desiring a hot cup of coffee or cola to perk you up. This exercise needs to be practiced each day for about one month before you will see significant results. Sit in a comfortable position with your spine straight. Place your tongue on the back of your two front teeth and leave them there for this exercise. Have the mouth closed, and inhale and exhale quickly through your nose. Do this exercise for 15 seconds and increase the time by 5-10 seconds each week until you are up to 60 seconds. This breathing exercise is a work out for parts of your body and those areas will feel tired in the beginning. Over time this exercise, will be easy to perform and will quickly bring energy to you.
