Gift giving is a big part of the Christmas Season. You need to organize the Christmas gift list and then walk through countless stores looking for the perfect gift. Many times the perfect gift never finds you and you become tired and stressed. Relive some stress this year and make a few gifts for family members, friends and the neighbours. The next couple of articles will give you ideas and suggestions to making great gifts that all will enjoy and appreciate.

Gifts in a Jar are an old gift giving tradition. Make many for the family, friends and unexpected guests. Old friends and neighbours have a habit of coming all through the Christmas Season giving and if you have nothing to give you feel guilty. Remove the guilt and store a half a dozen of these Gifts in a Jar in your kitchen cupboards.

The most favourite Gifts in a Jar for our family are cookie and brownie recipes. You may also wish to do bean dishes, soups, dips, and salad dressings.

Brownies in A Jar

Layer the below ingredients in a quart jar. Quart jars are found in grocery stores or big department stores.

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup cocoa
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Seal the ingredients in the quart jar. Attach a small piece of paper to the neck of the jar with a ribbon with the following directions.
Ingredients: 1 cup butter, 3 eggs, brownie mix
Directions: Mix the brownie mix together. Cream 1 cup of butter and stir in 3 eggs, one at a time. Add the brownie mix and blend until smooth. Spread into an ungreased brownie pan and cook for 35-40 minutes in a 350-degree oven.

Chocolate Chip Cookies in A Jar

Layer the below ingredients in a quart jar. Quart jars are found in grocery stores or big department stores.

  • 1 2/3 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cups sugar
  • 2 cup chocolate chips

Mix the above ingredients and seal in a quart jar. Attach a small piece of paper to the neck of the jar with a ribbon with the following directions.
Ingredients: 3/4 cup butter, 2 eggs, 2 teaspoons of vanilla
Directions: Cream 3/4 cup of butter and stir in 2 eggs, one at a time. Add the cookie mix and blend until smooth. Mix in the vanilla. Drop the cookies by the teaspoon onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes in a 350-degree oven.

Both of these recipes are great to have on hand during the holiday season. Make a batch of cookies and brownies in half the time with the mix already prepared.
