Feng Shui In The Home

© Debbie DeSpirt

Feng Shui is an ancient art that will bring the flow of energy back into your home. Many of the ideas are based on common sense and many of us already practice Feng Shui to some extent.

Last week, I went to a two hour workshop on Feng Shui. The Canadian Founder of Feng Shui gave us a simple overview of Feng Shui in the home. Her feng shui is based on the compass and form. She has a few guidelines for all to follow in their home.

  • Remove clutter from every area of your home. Clutter hidden in a drawer or in a closet stagnates the energy flowing freely in your home. Clean the closets and give away any item that you have not worn in two years. Do not hang onto anything. Everybody is attached to everything with strings. Really digest this statement. I know see myself with hundreds of strings attached to everything. I know cut those strings and visualize cutting them off. For example, you go to the grocery store and the person in front of you upsets you. You go home and tell someone and then you replay the incident the following day at work and the cycle continues. What a waste of energy, instead grab a beautiful pair of shiny scissors and cut the string. This string attached to you is a waste of energy and is a nuisance since it is taking your energy. Cut away all those strings, a few each day and before long you will feel refreshed and reenergized.

  • Each individual has a Kau Number that is based on their year of birth. Your year of birth dictates your best energy source. I was born in 1968 and my energy source is North. Now that I know my energy source I need to use it in everyday situations. For example, I am best to wake up to a Northern window or face the north for a good sleep. The north gives me great energy and I am able to pick up this energy to benefit my body. Another example is when you are talking to people in a business or pleasure situation you are best to face your energy source. In the beginning you are trying to get the compass bearing but soon finding your energy source will be easy and simple. Everybody also has complimentary energy sources. If you are unable to face your chosen direction, pick one of your complementary sources. Our seatings at the kitchen table has changed to embrace this view.
