Redecorating For the Fall Months

School is back in and the days are getting shorter and the nights longer. It is time to redecorate the home to fall fashions. I have some quick and inexpensive ideas to warm up the home.

  • Change the window treatments. Go to darker colours for the fall months. It gives you more warmth. Use a heavier fabric for the window treatments, this will help keep the heat in and give the room a cozier feel.

  • Get those blankets out and start draping them over the couch and chairs. Have a decorative box to put the blankets in during the day is also an option.

  • Place candles and candle holders throughout the home. Lit or unlit this gives a nice feel to the home.

  • Change the artwork in the home. Use the same frames but place a winter/fall scene into the frame. Colours such as orange, gold, red, auburn, dark green are great to warm the place.

  • You may not be able to repaint the whole house each season, but you may place a large piece of fabric on one wall.

  • Get throw rugs out and place them all over the home. Especially in areas with high traffic.

  • Place a decorative basket by your front door and place cozy socks or slippers in them. Your feet never have to be cold again.

  • Flowers will not be as abundant but that should not keep you from bringing nature indoors. Cut cedar looks great in a vase.

  • Change the table linen on your kitchen/dining room table. Go for a darker, warmer colour. Accessorize with great fall decorations.

  • Change the linen on your beds.

  • Bring outside plants indoor for the fall/winter months. Place them all over the home.

  • Place dimmers on your light switches, to allow you the flexibility to create your own lighting.

  • Regroup your decorations and place some into storage for the fall/winter months. I have certain items that look great in the summer and other items for fall decorations.

  • Place small white lights on your indoor trees. Gives a nice look on any cold fall day. During the day, you can barely notice the wire around the tree.

Changing your home each season takes little time and money. I love to make the home change with the seasons and my mood. During the fall months I prefer the dark colours to the light and airy summer colours. Have fun updating your home.
