Cleaning with Three Ingredients

I have received many emails on cleaning the home. Most of the mail is from individuals who are having parties or relatives are coming for a visit. Here are the basic steps to keep your home looking great in the quickest possible time.

Cleaning Tips
  • Baking Soda is your bestfriend. Baking soda eliminates odours, cleans and disinfects the entire home. For odours, place an open box in rooms all over the home. You may put the soda in decorative containers or leave in the box. To clean the home, mix baking soda with water to make a smooth paste. The paste is great for getting rid of scuff marks and rings in the bathtub or in sinks. Gently massage the paste into the dirt and rinse well with clean water. Buff dry with a cloth to remove all traces of the baking soda. Baking soda likes to cling to the surfaces. The paste is also useful for cleaning stoves, and the stove elements. It leaves no marks or scratches. Be careful using the paste with material that is soft or that scratches easily. Baking soda is also great to disinfect. You may sprinkly the soda into your toilets and leave overnight or for at least 1 hour. You should do this about once a week. Think of baking soda as an everyday cleanser and use it for many of your cleaning jobs.

  • Vinegar is another great cleaner in the home. You may use vinegar full strength or dilute it with water depending on your cleaning job. If the smell of vinegar is too much, clean with the windows open and/or add a couple of drops of essential oil to your cleaning solution to soften the smell of vinegar. Vinegar at full strength is great for disinfecting. I spray my doorknobs and taps once a week to kill germs. I spray and wipe clean with a paper towel. I do not use a reusable cloth as I do not want the germs to go from one doorknob to the next. A vinegar solution is great to clean your floors and walls. Vinegar is great to remove soap residue quickly and effortlessly. Spray a vinegar solution on your countertops to clean and disinfect. Use as you would an everyday cleanser.

  • Club soda is one of my favourite cleaners to shine the home. Club soda is great to clean windows. Spray the soda on the window and wipe dry. No streaks and no smelly chemicals to breath in. Your child is also able to drink the soda with no ill effects. Club soda shines up the chrome in the kitchen and bathrooms. The faucets shine with a simple wipe. Club soda is inexpensive and has no smell. Enjoy using this new cleaner to make your home sparkle.
