Do not throw fashion to the wind during your pregnancy. Feeling great about yourself and looking great is a winning combination for a healthy pregnancy.
Before you go mad in the trendy maternity shops that place high price tags on their fashion, devise a fashion plan. Decide what items you wear on a daily basis and the items you need for special occassions.
Buy one or two slacks that are a part of your present fashion syles. I have a pair of jeans and a pair of black funky pants that can be dressed up or dressed down. I purchased these items at a maternity store because of the comfort of their design. In the USA there are competitive prices because there are several maternity stores. In Canada, maternity wear and availability is limited, allowing inflated prices. You may purchase a pair of pants a size or two bigger with elastic. I have found maternity pants are much better even with the increased costs.
Shirts, tops and blouses may be purchased at the maternity store or any other store. During my last pregnancy, I only purchased one top from the maternity store. My other tops were purchase 2-3 sizes up from my regular fit. During the beginning of my pregnancy, I looked frumpy. I bought an accessory that gathers material in the back of the top to give the blouse/shirt a more tailored look. As my belly grew, I loosened the accessory until I no longer needed it. This will save you quite a few dollars.
Looking great at Christmas or a wedding is not too difficult. Splurge and buy a great blouse that will go with your black pants or skirt. Try and not buy a dress that you will only wear once.
During your pregnancy, comfort is key. Comfort should not have to come at the price of fashion. Accessories are key to looking great during pregnancy. Buy a great scarf, or wonderfully wild shoes, whatever your choice make it a personal statement.
