Bubble Fun For the Family

Children and adults are fascinated with bubbles. They are at weddings, playgrounds and in backyards all across the country. My son and I love to play with bubbles. We no longer purchase plastic wands and premade bubble mix. Our fun is making our own bubbles and wands for play.

To make good quality bubbles purchase a good quality dishwashing liquid such as dawn or joy. The liquid soap needs to be thick. Combine 1 cup of tepid water with 4 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid and 2 tablespoons of glycerin. Glycerin is found at most pharmacies. Once the liquids are combined pour into containers with or without lids.

Wand making is a great deal of fun. Twist pipe cleaners to a desired shape. We make circles, hearts and irregular shapes for our bubble blowers. You may also use slotted spoons or pancake flipper for a wand. Anything with a hole is a great bubble blower.

Once the bubbles are filling your backyard, lets incorporate some great games to keep them going.

  • Give each player 30 seconds to one minute to pop as many bubbles as he/she can. This is great for birthday parties.

  • Allow each child to make their wand and see who is able to blow the biggest bubble.

  • Blow bubbles at night and track them with a flashlight.

  • Design the most creative bubble blower that is successful at blowing bubbles.

Hope this article gets you in the mood to make bubbles.
