For the last couple of years, I have been in search of a perfect diet for my family. I realized their is no perfect diet and everyone believes their food thoughts are correct. I am going to give you the tips that have been a benefit to my family and tips that we are still researching and not quite sure what to think.
Eating To Better Health Tips
- Whole foods are the best. The less manipulated a product the better it is for you.
- Use olive oil, it is a good oil. Stay away from polyunsaturated fats. Margarine is a big no no. Polyunsaturated fats are found in a great deal of recipes check those boxes.
- Eat as much vegetables as you like. Vegetables are your family's bestfriend. There are countless ways to incorporate them into your diet. I have put pureed peas in my pizza sauce for my picky big and little eaters. I grate carrots and place them in sauces and sandwiches. What a person cannot see they will not complain about. The pizza sauce was a big hit but I decided to keep the secret ingredient a recipe.
- Fruits are great for us to. Berries are especially good for us. Even with their high natural sugar count. Better to grab an apple than a bag of chips.
- Eat more fish especially salmon, sardines and mackerel. They are all high in omega 3 which many of us are sufficient in.
Salmon is an easy alternative at the table. I tell my son that salmon is red chicken and he devours it.
- Beans are a very nutritious plant food. Beans are high in protein. Sprinkle them on salads or on rice dishes. Slowly add them to your diet.
- Decrease meat intake and increase beans to balance your protein intake.
- Pasta should be al dente to make the body work harder to break it down. Soft pasta is broken down too quickly in the body. You may also eat whole grain pasta. I find al dente the better choice at the moment.
- Breads should be limited. Eat hearty, grain bread instead of fluffy white bread. I do not like whole wheat bread but I love the bread with lots of nuts and grains. Flax seed bread is a good choice since it is heartier and the flax seeds give you omega 3. Buy unprocessed flour or unbleached white flour.
