Fibre--Great for the Body.


Fibre is a very important part of your nutrition. Fibre is said to reduce your risks of certain cancers and to give you a healthy body if following the other nutrition rules in conjuction. Putting more fibre in your daily meals is creative but easy. When increasing your fibre intake, increase your water intake as well.

Tips To Increase Fibre Intake
  1. Place 1 teaspoon of bran in your glass of morning juice. Mix it well, and no one needs to know it is in the juice. You may add bran to juice or water throughout the day. (1 teaspoon of bran in your juice before a meal is said to curb your appetitie)
  2. Drink papaya juice, tastes better than prune and has a higher fibre content.
  3. Other great juices for fibre are carrot, apple, pear, prune, raspberry or blackberry.
  4. Read your cereal packages--purchase cereal that has a high content of fibre.
  5. When making fresh bread, place a couple of tablespoons of bran in with the flour.
  6. Use a couple of tablespoons of bran mixed with your crumble topping for apple or berry crumble.
  7. Mix bran in with your chicken/pork coating mix.
  8. Eat Bran/ blueberry muffins. They taste great and are good for you.
  9. A tablespoon or two of bran in your pancake batter.
  10. Eat beans and lentils. They are high on the list. Slowly add these to your diets, after a couple weeks your body will adjust and the gas associated with these foods will decrease or diminish.
  11. Peas are another great source. Sprinkle peas in soups, pasta, salads and anything else. Split pea soup is very good. Incorporate peas into your daily menus.
  12. Eat whole wheat pasta and rice. If you do not like the strong taste, use 50% white pasta with 50% whole wheat pasta.
  13. Eat whole wheat bread, read the labels for the amount of fibre, some foods are misleading.

Fibre is a great part of our diet. Adults should receive 25-30mg of it each day. Are you getting your daily intake of fibre.
