Relax on Christmas Morning

Christmas is a wonderful time of year to be with loved ones. A great deal of excitement in our house with lots of food and drinks for everyone. With all the excitement, personalities tend to clash and stress related situations may arise. I have some great secrets to try and reduce tension on Christmas.

  • Preparation Before Christmas Day

    1. Plan out your day before Christmas Eve. Tell your family, the inlaws and whoever else you have to visit, the time of your arrival and your departure. No surprises, less stress and resentment from family.
    2. Give yourself 1/2 hour grace period for your arrival.
    3. Make a list of items you are to prepare.
    4. Make Christmas Cookie dough a week or two early and freeze. Defrost the dough and rollout and bake, a couple days before Christmas.
    5. Pies and Tarts can be made a week ahead of time and left in the refridgerator until ready to use.
    6. Be creative with vegetables and side dishes. Use frozen vegetables or cut the vegetables a couple days a head of time. Make the sauces for the vegetables, a couple days early and reheat on Christmas Day.
    7. Make potatoes that can be reheated and cooked earlier in the week. We are making rosti, potato pancakes and stuffed baked potatoes. They taste great.
    8. Make pancakes, crepes or waffles earlier in the week and reheat on Christmas Morning. Sandwiches and baskets of fruit are great for breakfast.
    9. Make your dough a couple days earlier and refridgerate. Shape the dough and let rise and bake as instructed.
    10. Have cans and bottles of juice and water.

These are great tips to save you time on Christmas Day. Set a day to do all this fancy cooking and order a pizza for the evening. Christmas Day you can enjoy being with the family while the oven and toaster warms your great meal.

  • Set the Christmas Mood
    1. Have scented lavender candles burning in the main rooms. Lavender is great for reducing stress and calming the mind and body.
    2. Citrus Fruit in the form of food, candles, essential oils are also great for reducing stress and revitalizing. Have a great big basket of oranges on the coffee table for all to enjoy.
    3. If the family wants a warm drink suggest Camomile and Peppermint tea. Also known to relax the mind and body. Try and limit coffee.
    4. Keep the chocolates hidden away from big and small hands. They taste great but lets everyone go a little squirrely especially the little ones.
