Christmas Ornament Party

© Debbie DeSpirt

Christmas is a great time of the year. There is much to do before the big day. My family begins the preparations in late November, to allow us to relax on Christmas Eve. Making homemade ornaments and great food and drinks keep us very busy. Have an ornament party, where everybody brings special things to make fabulous ornaments. Here is my favourite ornament and the latter part is great drinks for the guests.

Christmas Ornaments

Apple/Cinnamon Ornaments

  • Mix 1 cup of cinnamon with 1 cup of applesauce. (Use applesauce that is lump free)
  • Let the mixture sit for 15 minutes.
  • Sprinkle cinnamon on a cutting board.
  • Knead the apple mixture, until it is smooth.
  • Sprinkle cinnamon on your rolling pin.
  • Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thick rectangle.
  • Get out your favourite cookie cutters and start cutting.
  • Poke cloves and buttons and beads for decorations.
  • Make a hole at the top of the ornament, to string with ribbon.
  • Let the ornaments lie flat and dry for 24 hours. Turning over at least once in the 24-hour period.
These ornaments are simple for the entire family to enjoy making. They make the house smell great. Simple Living 101 has great ornament ideas.

Christmas Drinks

Apple Cider

Pour 10 cups of apple cider in your crockpot. Add 5 cinnamon sticks and simmer for 4-6 hours. This is a great drink for a party.

Christmas Cranberry Kiss

Mix 1 ounce of southern comfort with 8oz of cranberry juice and a splash of gingerale. Very Refreshing.

Egg Nog

Blend 2 cups of milk, 2 eggs, and 2 teaspoons of sugar. Flavour with a dash of nutmeg and vanilla. You may spice it up with rum.

Irish Cream

Blend 1 can of condensed milk, with 2 cups of Irish whiskey, 1 cup of half/half cream, 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup and 1 tablespoon of fresh instant coffee. Place in a glass container with a lid and let sit in the refrigerator for seven days before using. Great over a couple of ice cubes or put an ounce or two in your Christmas coffee.

Hot Chocolate

Mix 1 cup of granulated white sugar with 1/2 cup of cocoa. Mix 7 teaspoons of cornstarch with 1/2 cup of water. Blend the cocoa mix with the cornstarch liquid. Stirring to make a smooth paste. Put the mixture in a pot and simmer over low heat while gradually stirring in 4 cups of milk. Let simmer for approximately 10 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent burning the drink.

Hey Debbie, Thanks for the idea of a Christmas Ornament party. I have been in many ornament exchanges but this would be fun for family, friends and the children.

Thanks,
Veronica ...
