The Warmth of Fall

  • Make a tree out of your hand, arm and the leaves you collected from the walk. Place your hand on a piece of paper with part of your arm as well. The arm is the trunk and the fingers are the branches of the tree. The leaves are the leaves, glue them on the branches and along the ground. It looks great when you get a vast array of colors for this picture.
  • Gather any interesting fall objects such as leaves twigs, berries, nuts and whatever else is lying around on the ground. Make up a cornstarch batch that allows you to make impressions of the objects. The cornstarch batch is 1-cup cornstarch, 2 cups baking soda, and 11/4-cup water. Blend all this ingredients until smooth while heating over medium-high on the stove; continue cooking until the batch thickens. Let cool and sandwich between waxed paper and roll out with your hands or a rolling pin. Push the objects into the batch and take out carefully to see the imprint. You can color after or roll the cornstarch dough and push new objects into the mixture.

  • Baking is great in the fall. All the harvest is ready to be cooked, preserved and eaten. I love making bread and baked goods. They fill the house with warmth and freshness. I enjoy going to the farms to pick my own apples and pumpkins. I then proceed to preserve, bake and eat them fresh. I just cannot get enough apple crumble and pumpkin pie. A fresh pumpkin muffin on a Saturday morning with some apple cider is a must in our home.

  • Decorate the inside with the outdoors. Before the snow falls and the leaves, nuts, and berries are lost until spring, gather them up and bring them indoors. It is great to see a bowl full of pinecones on the dinner table with a few sprigs of fresh cedar. It smells and looks great. On those very cold days, you can look at the beauty at your dinner table. You can also decorate an inexpensive picture frame with nuts and a few twigs glued along the side. Alternatively, do some decoupage with the fallen leaves. You can make a collage and frame it. Enjoy.

  • Another great time about fall is the opportunity to drink fresh warm apple cider and hot chocolate. I love the aroma and the feeling it gives
