Fall Days

Summer days are gone for another year. Do not let the colder weather get you down. Fall has many wonderful activities for us to enjoy with the cooler days and colder nights. Dress in your warm fall clothes and enjoy any of these activities or one of your own chose.

Fall Activities

  1. Apple Picking

Apple picking is great fun for the entire family. Gather up the family and head to farm country. Try to go to an organic apple farm if possible. Many of the farms have petting zoos, corn mazes, a quaint country store, hayrides, and dozens of apple trees. Bring home the apples to make apple crisp, apple pie, applesauce and much more. Do not forget you can dry the apples to use in potpourri or for future cooking when the apples are out of season. Enjoy the day eating and picking apples.

  2. Fall Colors

Gather the family and place them in the car to drive around the countryside to see the brilliance of the leaves changing colors. It is always magnificent to see the green leaves turn to bright red, orange, gold, bronze and yellow. I love picking a few of the fallen leaves and placing them in a scrapbook to admire their beauty on a cold winter night. It is also great fun to grab the crayons and to draw all the beautiful leaves and their unique colors. Happy Watching.

  3. Nature Walks

I love exploring the provincial parks in the fall when the weather is a little cooler. It makes the walk more enjoyable and less exhausting. As well, I find that the wildlife is more active because of the lower temperatures and less traffic of people. Once a week, Justin and I find a new place to visit within a one-hour radius of our home. We pack our lunch and walk through various ecosystems. It is great for clearing the mind and to release the stresses of the week.

  4. Leaves Creations

Thousands of leaves fall in our small neighborhood. What is there to do with all of these leaves after raking the big pile? Before you do anything, jump into the big pile with the kids. It is great fun. The jumping aids in the decomposition of the leaves. Gather some of the leaves and put them in the garden to decompose and to protect the bulbs and ground over the cold winter. After the work is done, grab some old clothes and make a scarecrow. This is great to decorate your lawn in the fall months. Be creative, you can make a family sitting on a bench. Fill the clothes up with the leaves and make the face out of an old pair of panty hose. Cut one leg, fill with leaves and tie it shut. Have fun. The leaves are great to decorate paper, books, cards and much more. You can gather the leaves and place in a decorative container and use as a centerpiece. Enjoy creating with the fall leaves.
