Only one more bag to nestle into the car and we are off for the weekend. We are just one of hundreds of cars heading north to the great outdoors to enjoy its offerings. For our family, camping is an annual pilgrimage.
Great Car Games
- The Alphabet Game:
(First Player) 1. Name a country
(Second Player) 2. Name a country starting with the last letter of the First Player's country
3. Continue until someone is stumped
Example: Ontario--Oklahoma--Alaska
- Grocery Store:
(First Player) 1. I went to the grocery store and bought a candy bar.
(Second Player) 2. I went to the grocery store and bought a banana and a candy bar.
You continue going to the grocery store until one is unable to repeat the exact order, they purchased the items.
- Story Making
(First Player) 1. Start a story with one or two lines.
(Second Player) 2. Continue the story with one or two lines.
The sillier the story the better.
These are great games for the long drive up to the camping sites. Allow the kids to use their imagination to play any game in the car.
Camping Games
- Scavenger Hunt: Go to your local library and research the area you are going camping. Make a list of the popular trees, flowers, insects, and animals. Have the children locate these items throughout the camping trip on your nature walks. Great fun and educational too.
- Build a Home: Build a home out of twigs and leaves and digging in the dirt. An area that can become your child's seclusion.
- Rock Art:Gather stones and paint them with natural dyes from the earth and flowers.
- Sand Art: Make castles or anything you fancy on the beach
- The list is endless use your imagination.
Try to incorporate the area you are camping in for your games. Limit the supplies and work with the wonders of nature to amuse the family.
