Coffee Break

A beautiful day! My son and I played for hours in the new fallen snow. We made a great big snowman and decorated its face like in the movies except our snowman was named Debbie with two eyes of stones, a pinecone nose and a mouth made of pebbles. We tied my scarf around her neck and left her head barren. No magic upon this snowman but magic of an afternoon spent with Justin emerged. His precious little face giggled at our creation and he danced around Debbie, yelling "Debbie, Debbie, Debbie." Our faces were red with delight and the cold wind whisking across our faces. Time to go in and take the chill off.

Justin sat in the kitchen admiring our creation while I pursued our drink recipes to make the ideal drink for both. We decided on homemade hot chocolate with mounds of whipping cream. I poured four cups of milk into a double boiler and began to warm the milk. I looked over at Justin and not a muscle was moving - he was still transfixed at the snowman. I began to whip up some cream. I poured one cup of milk into a chilled metal mixing bowl and began to blend. Once soft forms peaked, I slowly added two tablespoons of sugar, beating until stiff peak forms. Periodically, I kept an eye on the milk. The milk was nearing its ideal temperature. I grabbed a mommy and child size mug. I love drinking out of that big café au lait cups and Justin drinks out of a smaller more manageable cup for his dear small tender hands. I place 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa and 1/4 cup of sugar into the warm milk and whisk the mixture until smooth. I pour the warm hot chocolate into the cup, three quarters of the way. The rest is for the delicious whip cream. I call to my son to sit at the table and to enjoy our hot chocolate and some fresh baked cookies from the night before. We sit across from each other chattering away about our adventure. Time stands still for a split second as I savior our moment together sharing our time and drinking our hot chocolate.

Hope this inspired you to grab a nice drink and go on an adventure. An adventure can occur at anytime at any place and with anyone. It is a great idea to package the dry ingredients and give as gifts. If you are sharing the day with your sweetheart try a delicious cocktail.
