A good breeder should socialize the cats and kittens in their care with other cats and people at a young age. They should not be contained in cages. Kittens should be held at an early age as well.

Check newspapers, cat magazines, breed club periodicals or the web to discover when a cat show is taking place in your area and attend.

Give your veterinarian a call. He or she will have the resources for you to get in touch with a reliable cat breeder. The vet will recognize whether the breeder in question provides healthy cats. Look at the classifieds. You can locate reliable breeders in your local newspaper. But be forewarned that bad breeders use the classifieds as well. Make it a rule to visit the cattery before doing business with it.
