Hereditary Aggression

As a responsible buyer, you should note if the breeder has properly registered their cats with a trustworthy cat association. This ensures that the breeder is producing cats that meet that breed's standard and that papers are kept on each cat. Make sure the cattery is clean. Do not consider one that is filthy. You should also consider a breeder who competes consistently in cat shows. This will ensure that their breeding skills are current. A good breeder should socialize the cats and kittens in their care with other cats and people at a young age. They should not be contained in cages. Kittens should be held at an early age as well.

How do you find a good breeder? Surf the web. This will uncover a large amount of cat breeders and other resources. Contact cat clubs. They can be local or national. Some of which you can also find on the web. These associations make it their business to know who is producing quality cats. Get in touch with a national or international cat association to find the one near you. The best breeders are present and try to win in cat shows. Check newspapers, cat magazines, breed club periodicals or the web to discover when a cat show is taking place in your area and attend.

Give your veterinarian a call. He or she will have the resources for you to get in touch with a reliable cat breeder. The vet will recognize whether the breeder in question provides healthy cats. Look at the classifieds. You can locate reliable breeders in your local newspaper. But be forewarned that bad breeders use the classifieds as well.
