Bryan Kortis, the course author, serves as an executive director of the association called Neighborhood cats a New York City based non-profit organization. The work of Neighborhood Cats has been featured in local and national media. Because of the outstanding work that this organization has done, Neighborhood Cats was named the Feral Cat Organization of 2002. They also hold workshops on feral cat care and help others on feral cat issues. Bryan and Co-director Ruth Sharp, in 1999, learned the fundamentals of TNR in the fall of 1999 by working with a colony of 13 cats. Their work influenced how feral cat colonies were handled in New York.
This course will supply you with all the knowledge that you will need to implement a successful TNR large or small. Trapping the feral cat is an important part of the lessons supplied to a student of this class. You will learn how to trap one cat at as time as well as twenty or thirty at a time. Bryan discusses care of cats, spaying, neutering, whether they should be tested for Feline Leukemia and what you should do if it tests positive. Also the issue of which type of feral cat is adoptable will be discussed as well as socializing techniques for them. This couse also teaches how to relocate feral cats or find a good home for the tamed feral cats. The final goal is zero growth in the colony as the size of the colony maintains a acceptable level when new litters are reduced or elinminated.
