Tippy, My First Siamese Cat

Tippy on Halloween
My first Siamese, the modern breed with the elongated face, cat was Tippy, a sophisticated cat with a low nagging voice. She was brought to me at the age of five by my father. He acquired her from a co-worker. I picked her up immediately upon her arrival. She became scared, having never being around children before and scratched me. But as we became more acquainted we became the best of friends.

Tippy was very reserved but she would let me put her in doll dresses. There was the occasional hiss when I put her arms in the doll dress's sleeves. But she would not budge or jump away. Speaking of jumping, Tippy would jump on the very top of the dish cabinets as well as on the ledge in front of the house near the picture window. She loved to bask in the sun in that particular spot.

A wonderful memory I have of her happened on Halloween. I was dressed up as Cleopatra and I held her stretched out. There is a picture of this. Somehow she seemed to fit into my theme Halloween that year.

She loved my mom and would turn her head to get a good bite when she washed the dishes or ironed. My Mom taught piano. Tippy would sit on top of the piano, look at the metronome, an instrument that measures the beat of music, and slap it because she was tired of it moving. The only music that Tippy liked was classical music. If she was in my room and I turned on the radio, which always played pop music, Tippy would run out of the room. When there was a symphony playing classical music on the T.V. in the kitchen,. she would listen to it intently. When my Mom would unload the groceries, she would sneak into one of the bags. Another trick that Tippy had was to sit on the hutch that contained the good dishes. One particular humorous sight is that we would put the nativity scene there and she would sit in the middle of it.

Tippy was quite the hunter. She would dig up moles and present them to my mother.

This cat did not like our family having company; she climbed a tree once at a neighbors house. My dad had to climb the tree, put her in a basket and lower her down. We were all relieved when we found her.
