This first weekend in June is a Bank holiday weekend here in Britain as the country celebrates the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, and throughout the county, there will be a large number of events.
Golden Jubilee http://events.goldenjubilee.gov.uk/regio... The link above will take you to a map of Britain where you can find out what each area of the country is doing to celebrate the Jubilee. One of the main events in Shrewsbury will be on Monday June 3 in the Quarry where there will be music and entertainment beginning at 1pm. I am hoping that my wife and I will be able to attend and I can only hope the weather keeps fine. BBC Shropshire http://www.bbc.co.uk/shropshire/ I make no apology for bringing this site to your attention again. The BBC has expanded their Shropshire site and it is now one of the best sites about Shropshire on the web. There is something for everyone here and it includes a web cam of the English Bridge in Shrewsbury, a "what's on" link and local news as well as weather. One of the most interesting parts of the site is a chat board for Salopians from around the world. When I checked it out there were postings from the USA and Canada and I will be keeping a watch on this site on a regular basis. Another top feature of the site is that you can sign up for a regular newsletter. I await my first issue with high expectations. RAF Cosford http://www.cosfordairshow.co.uk/main_ie.... On June 9 the Cosford Air Show takes place. I have highlighted this site previously and there is a lot of information about this tremendous event. In previous years this event has been a highlight of the summer, this year looks to be no different with a fly by of vintage planes as well as the chance to ride in a helicopter and for those inclined a market, and craft fare. Featured Walks in Shropshire http://www.shropshirestar.com/features/w... Another favorite site is the Shropshire Star and there seems to have been plenty of work put in to making this a must for anyone wanting local news and information. A feature I have not mention before is a series on short walks around Shropshire written by Kevin Rowley. The walks are described in full and include a map and everything is downloadable to enable you to take them with you. Those who read my articles regularly know that I am not really the physical exertion type (my longest walk is to the nearest pub) but even might try a couple of these walks. Go To Page: 1 2
