Shropshire tends to go into hibernation at the beginning of the year and there are few outdoor events. However it is possible to find interesting events even at this time of the year and below I list a few.
Oakengates Theatre http://www.oakengates-theatre.co.uk/what... There is still time to catch a pantomime at Oakengates. This year the star of the show is Nigel Pivaro who is currently making one of his regular appearances in Coronation Street as Terry Duckworth. For those unfamiliar with British TV Coronation Street is probably the most popular of the “soaps” with a huge following. The link gives performance details of the Pantomime Shrewsbury Pantomime http://www.musichall.co.uk/theatre-main.... There is still time to catch a pantomime (although the site suggests they have sold out) at Shrewsbury’s Music Hall. Details of some other events due at the venue are also given. Shropshire Tourism At this time of year if there is one site worth checking regularly then it is Shropshire Tourism. With an abundance of links to everything from events to stately homes this should be your first click. http://www.shropshiretourism.com/attract... Ludlow Another site worth checking is http://www.ludlow.org.uk/index.html Where you will find out what is happening in Ludlow. The town never fails to provide some attraction or entertainment covering everything from horse racing at the local racecourse to antique markets outside the Castle. BBC I think I have mentioned the BBC Radio Shropshire site before. The BBC has added a “Where I Live” section to their main page at http://www.bbc.co.uk/whereilive/ This gives access to a number of cities and regions and provides good information. Recently they have added a Shropshire section that you can check out at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/shropshire/ This looks like it might become a very useful starting point for anyone interested in Shropshire. The site is still under construction but I am so impressed I felt that it was worth telling you about it now. One of the most interesting features is an online chat function where you can ask questions and chat to people who live in Shropshire. There is a question posed as a starter for conversation and when I checked out the site the question was “If Shropshire disappeared what would you miss about the county?” There were a couple of replies, at least one not too complimentary about the county. As you read this my wife and I will be holidaying on the Costa del Sol in Southern Spain. This is the first time we have been away for Christmas and New Year and I’ll let you know next month what it was like. Go To Page: 1 2
