I am old enough to remember where I was the day John F Kennedy was assassinated. An act of madness half way across the world touched lives like no other act had ever done or would ever do until 11th September in New York. For my generation the defining moment was knowing where you were when Kennedy was assassinated. For this generation it will be where were you when the World Trade Centre was attacked. Watching this tragedy unfold on our TV screens will remain with all of us for a very long time. However it is the many families who have lost love ones that we all must remember. The tragic aftermath of this outrageous act has consequences even in this little corner of England. Graham Berkeley , from Shrewsbury , was a passenger on hijacked flight United Airlines 175. His parents, unaware of their son’s situation, were watching the events on TV as his plane crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Centre. My heartfelt condolences go to Mr. and Mrs. Berkeley on their loss. You can read about their story and of how this tragedy was reported in Shropshire in the archive section of the Shropshire Star site http://www.shropshirestar.com/news/septe... There has been much written about the attacks but I found the account of what happened by Adam Mayblum written in an understated and matter of fact way easily the most powerful. http://www.write101.com/11Sep2001.htm Wellington Literary Festival On a lighter note the Wellington Literary Festival begins tonight with Martin Bell, journalist and former M.P., speaking at New College. I hope to attend what should be a very interesting night. For the full details of the Festivals check out : http://www.wellingtontc.rapidial.co.uk/L...
