Food to Bloody Battles - September in Shropshire

With the last Bank Holiday before Christmas now over it is clear that the year is speeding to a close. However Shropshire provides a great range of events in September. From the famous Ludlow Food Festival to the re-enactment of a bloody battle the county once again gives visitors an array of attractions to savour.

Wem Carnival 3 September

A great day out for all the family, but especially the kids, this event attracts thousands of visitors. With a pipe band, a procession of floats and a clown carnival this is worth a visit. The small town of Wem is a delight and adds to this great family event.

Ludlow Marches Food and Drink Festival 9 - 11 September

Ludlow has established itself as the food capital of Shropshire and this Festival is a fitting celebration of local produce and one of England's finest market towns. The site is packed with all the information you need to ensure you enjoy this great event. Don't miss the sausage trail or fail to sample the great ales on offer.

Operation Homefront Oswestry 23 - 25 September

This unique celebration of life during the war years concentrates on the home front. Frome evacuees to soldiers stationed in the area this event tries to recreate the feeling and atmosphere of those years. The site has information on all the events, including a special dinner dance.

Re-enactment of The Battle of Bloare Heath 24 - 25 September

In 1459 one of the bloodiest battles of the Wars of the Roses took place in the small hamlet of Bloare Heath. The site remains almost unchanged from that time and affords the opportunity to visualise the battle and the displacement of the armies. This re-enactment brings to life a pivotal moment in medieval history and the web site provides a wealth of information about the event and also the history surrounding the battle.

Bishop's Castle Michaelmas Fair 24 - 25 September

With street entertainment, a steel band and a vehicle rally this is a great weekend out for anyone. Bishop's Castle is a fine town and this autumn fair brings the whole place to life. A great event even if it is a reminder that summer is almost over.

Well that's about it for another month. September can be a great time to visit the county. As you can see there are still numerous events taking place but the pace is beginning to slow and with the majority of visitors gone the county offers peace and tranquillity as well as spectacular events.
