Still Winter in Shropshire

As I write this the county is in the grip of Arctic weather conditions. With temperatures rarely above freezing this week we then had heavy snow over the county. Whilst this is not completely unusual the severity after what was a mild January has caught many people out.

The weather has not affected any outdoor events in the county but only because there are few events at this time of year and in fact I have had some difficulty in finding too much happening in the county in the coming month. This might seem strange in a month that includes Mothering Sunday and Easter but traditionally most events and attractions will start to open at the beginning of April which of course is also Easter weekend so you will have to wait till next month for details of those attractions opening.

Shaun Hill, who I referred to in a recent article about the high standard of food in Ludlow, has decided to sell his restaurant. The link gives brief details.

Antique Discovery Day at Weston Park 19 March

The British public's fascination with antiques and how to make money from them seems to know no bounds. With any number of television programmes finding a large audience it is clear that people want to know more. For all those who want to learn about antiques this might be a good place to start. The site has all the details including the cost of this full day.

Ironbridge Half Marathon Sunday 20 March

I am sure that the current weather will have interrupted the training schedules of many of the runners but I am also sure that they will be here for the Ironbridge Half Marathon. My admiration for the people who do these runs and the marathon knows no bounds and if anyone is still thinking of entering then the entry form is available online at the site. There is also a 2.75 mile hospice fun run being held simultaneously and I wish all the runners the best of luck.

Shropshire Panoramic Views

http://www.bbc.co.uk/shropshire/panorami...

For those who wonder what all the fuss about Shropshire is about then the BBC has provided a large selection of panoramic views throughout the county. There are some spectacular views as well as interesting behind the scenes views such as inside the R & D Hanger at the Cosford RAF Air Base. If you can't visit the county this is the next best thing.
