Shop till you drop !!

I am afraid that with the county in a sort of suspended animation there are few exciting outdoor events taking place this month. With that in mind I thought that a little retail therapy might be in order so I have revisited some of the better shopping sites on the internet.

The one major event this month is of course Valentine's Day and for all those who love teddy bears I have included a visit to the Merrythought factory website.

Merrythought Teddy Bears

Just before Christmas my wife and I visited the Merrythought factory in Ironbridge. I have to say that factory is an overstatement as the shop has a work area at the rear and I was assured that that is where the designs and originals are put together. If you have a chance I would urge you to visit the shop and have a look at the bear museum. The shop also has a good range of bears on offer and takes orders from the catalogue. All in all it is a very pleasant day trip especially if you take a walk along the river with the great view of the iron bridge.

The site below will take you to the online store where you can purchase all of the Merrythought bears as well as many other items from Merrythought. Perhaps something there might be an ideal Valentine's Day gift for a loved one.

SHOPPING

While all of the towns in the county offer attractive and unusual shopping the major shopping centres are situated in Shrewsbury and Telford.

Shrewsbury

As I have said many times before in these pages Shrewsbury is one of the finest towns in England. If you can take your eyes from the picturesque architecture the town offers everything you need in the way of shopping. On the main street the two indoor shopping centres of Pride Hill and The Darwin Centre provide a wealth of familiar shops as well as a few local surprises. With comfortable protection from the uncertain weather and plenty of places to eat these centres are ideal for a leisurely stroll or some serious retail therapy. The link below will take you to the Shrewsbury Guide site where you will find shopping links to details of the major centres in Shrewsbury.

For something a little different why not try The Parade Shopping Centre where the pace is more sedate and the shops a little bit different. The site gives details of the shops and a little history of the building.
