I hope that everyone had a good Christmas. Whilst this is a time of festivities this year it must also be a time of reflection particularly on what each of us can do to help the people caught up in the death and devastation brought by the tsunami.

Although most of you will have eat too much over Christmas most of this months article is about the various foods that the county can offer. Either in a restaurant or from a local supplier Shropshire has a very high quality of local produce that makes this county one of the finest in England for food.

I have to confess that the theme of this months article also has a personal point. Earlier this month my son became the manager of Wellington Market. I have mentioned the market in Wellington in previous articles but I felt that I better declare my new personal interest.

It was thinking about the market that brought me to thinking about the food that Shropshire can provide. Again I have mentioned before the high quality restaurants in Ludlow. One of the reasons for their popularity is undoubtedly the fine local produce available to these talented chefs. Below I have mentioned a few local producers, I urge all of you to try these traders if you can and to also think about using your own local products and producers wherever possible.

A nice site giving details of products as well as a recipe. Shropshire Star article about the Shropshire Spice Company provides some more information and a look at the people involved.

This elegantly simple site provides links to some of the establishments that the Organic Smokehouse is associated with. Unfortunately they are not taking orders at present but I am sure it will be worth the wait.

The Shropshire Star article below gives a nice feel for the people behind the Organic Smokehouse.

LUDLOW RESTAURANTS

Outside of London the place with the most Michelin starred restaurants in England is Ludlow. Below I have chosen three from the many wonderful eateries in this beautiful historic market town.

Mr. Underhills

The link takes you to the site which provides panoramic views of the restaurant itself as well as a nice news letter about the restaurant (although a bit out of date). Unfortunately you cannot book online but if you are considering visiting then book well in advance.

The menus at the restaurant sites have my mouth watering. I can see you appreciate fine dining.

Congratulations to your son on the career with the market! ...
