This rally of the ornate vans used by showmen as they travelled the country should be very interesting. The vans range from simple one room homes to lavishly decorated mini palaces. The history of these vans and the stories of the people who used them will also include a Gypsy encampment on the edge of a traditional fair ground as well as a Gypsy wedding on the 7th August. The site has more information and details about this very special event.
Shrewsbury Flower Show 13 - 14 August
http://www.shrewsburyflowershow.org.uk/
This is the Shropshire Horticultural Society showpiece event. The Flower Show has been held annually since 1875 and has gone from strength to strength. Held in the beautiful Quarry Park which is within easy walking distance of the town centre this event covers more than just the great flower displays. There will be music from among others the Coldstream Guards and the Shrewsbury Male Voice Choir as well as Show Jumping, Royal Artillery Motorcycle Display and much more.
This is probably the main event of the summer for the county and it can be an unforgettable event for anyone who appreciates a great day out.
V Festival 21 - 22 August

Looking at the very impressive list of top acts that will be appearing over the two days I was struck by how little I know about the current popular music. The only names that meant much to me were Dido, Jamie Cullem and Badly Drawn Boys. However I am sure that other acts such as The Strokes, The Pixies, The Thrills, The Charlatans and Pink are all extremely popular and will draw the usual vast crowd for the major pop music event held in the county.
Bridgnorth Folk Festival 27 - 30 August

This is a bit more my speed. This festival is now one of the most important folk festivals on the calendar and this year features such top performers as Chumbawamba, Oysterband, Roy Bailey and many others. With interesting venues and a street carnival this should not be missed.
