Shropshire Food and Drink

Those of you who read this column regularly (and thanks to those that do) will know that occasionally I enjoy a drink. One thing that Shropshire has in abundance is good traditional pubs. If you want to sample the type of welcome, and the ales, that awaits you in a Shropshire pub check out the following sites.

Wood Brewery

http://www.woodbrewery.co.uk/

A traditional brewery that produces some very fine ales. The latest ale is called "Pot of Gold" and the site explains what is behind the name.

Real Ale Trail

http://www.realaletrail.co.uk/

This site is a celebration of Shropshire ales. With some brief history of local brewing and reference to A E Housman, it conjures up the feeling of tradition still maintained in Shropshire.

Church Stretton Food Fayre

http://www.churchstrettonfoodfayre.co.uk/

This is a new event which is designed to attract people and to showcase the local produce. The three-day Fayre will run from July 11 - 13 and will include over sixty stalls in the square as well as cookery exhibitions and wine tasting. On Friday July 11 there will be an Ale Trail through South Shropshire sampling many of the local brews.

Ludlow Festival

http://www.ludlowfestival.co.uk/

The annual Ludlow Festival began on June 20 and runs until July 13. The centre piece of this growing Arts festival will be the performances of Shakespeare's The Merchant Of Venice and The Winters Tale which will be performed in the stunning surroundings of Ludlow Castle.
