Shakespeare and Carmen just part of Shropshire’s Great OutdoorsWith the height of summer approaching the weather has improved out of all recognition. In the last few days the temperature in Shropshire was rivaling that of the Costa del Sol. As ever at this time of year there are a number of events for the visitor to Shropshire to enjoy. Unfortunately there is no one site which provides a comprehensive list of all the events going on this month but below I have listed some of the best "What's On" sites I could find. Here you should be able to find an event or attraction that you can enjoy. BBC Shropshire http://www.bbc.co.uk/shropshire/goingout... Virtual Shropshire http://www.virtual-shropshire.co.uk/what... Battle of Shrewsbury http://www.battleofshrewsbury.org/ Shropshire Tourism http://www.shropshiretourism.info/whatto... Severn Valley Railway http://www.svr.co.uk/specialevents.html National Trust http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/thi... National Trust Dudmaston Hall Historic Clothes Show Day 1st June 2003 http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/historic... Dudmaston Hall, which is near Bridgenorth is holding an Historic Clothes Show. There will be the opportunity to see the costumes in the Spanish gallery as well as some "hands on" events for the children. Even if you are unable to get there today it is worth visiting this impressive National Trust property at some point in the future. Mid Shropshire Vintage Vehicle Show 1st June 2003 http://www.msvintageclub.org.uk/events.h... I mentioned this in an earlier article but it is such a great chance to see some amazing vintage vehicles that I thought I would mention it again. With the weather so nice what could be a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than visiting this Show. Carding Mill Footpath http://www.virtual-shropshire.co.uk/news... http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/thi... The National Trust has a number of properties in Shropshire and does much to help maintain some of the glorious natural landmarks of the region. These sites give details of one project that has restored a footpath adjacent to Lightspout Waterfall. This area of Shropshire is stunning walking country and is worth a visit. Carmen at Weston Park Saturday 28th June 2003 Some years ago I was privileged to see the opera Carmen performed at the Albert Hall in London. I have to confess that I am no opera buff but Carmen is full of familiar music and spectacular scenes. You can combine the opera with a meal in the House for a really special experience. Ludlow Festival http://www.ludlowfestival.co.uk/ Ludlow is an amazing town. Not only is it one of the finest market towns in England but the people have worked really hard to promote the town. Rightly renowned for their Food Festival held each year they also have a magnificent arts festival. This year the Ludlow Festival will run from the 20th June until 13th July. Among many events will be the staging of William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice and A Winters Tale. Performances take place in the grounds of Ludlow Castle which provides a stunning backdrop to the plays.
