The Ogre Called Ouch and the Three Girls - Part II


one who buys the lantern shall be your husband ! If you take my advice, stay inside the lantern and wait for your prince. »

The maid entered the lantern, found a comfortable place to sit, then, leaned on the massive glass side of the lantern and fell asleep.

The next morning, a strange noise woke her. Someone on a horse had bought the lantern and carried it. She listened to the regular noise of the hoofs but not for long. She was curious to see the rider. The maid opened the lantern's glass door and looked up. She saw a handsome prince with a long sword riding a white horse. He had the lantern in one hand, and the horse's bridle in the other. Then, the maid saw another man approaching. The young man gave the lantern to him and said :

« Carry this lantern to the palace for me ! »

The maid froze still. The servant took the lantern and after a while the maid saw a magestic white palace in the distance. The palace stood in the middle of a lovely garden. Old oak trees stood on both sides of the tall gate; red, white and yellow flowers offered their petals to noisy bees. Many strange birds sang in the gigantic trees.

The maid decided to open the lantern's door and enquire about her whereabouts. The man who carried the lantern could not believe his eyes when he saw someone open a tiny door in the lantern but tried not to show his astonishment.

« Whose is this house ? » asked the maid.

« Here lives the prince who bought the lantern you hide into. He is famous in the whole kingdom. His sword can cut through rock, iron and wood. I wonder what are you doing inside his lantern ? Anyway, the prince will soon get married... »

In that moment, the chief cook came out and saw the lantern. She clasped her hands in astonishment and said :

« What a beautiful lantern ! It would be a really good idea to put it in the kitchen ! »

The man did not know where to put the lantern anyway. He gave it to the cook and said nothing about the girl inside. Just then, the prince entered throught the gate, laughed and called out to the cook :

« Yes, take it ! It really is a good idea ! With that,
