The Boy, The Puppy, The Kitten And The Small Frog - Part II

Back they went, hungry and tired...

But let me, first of all, tell you what happened to the magical box!

The young man's wife had decided to clean up the palace. She found the small magic box on a shelf. It was very dirty and not at all nice to look at. As she could not have guessed that the box was so important, she threw it out of the window. The box rolled down the street and someone inside cried out : "Ouch !"

Just at that time, a beggar was passing. He heard the "ouch" and by curiosity took the box and opened it to see what was inside. Suddenly, the giant showed up.

"Do you need something, Master ?" he asked the beggar.

"I want you to take this palace, the lady in it and myself to a desert island. I want to go far, far away and be a king!" "I can easily do that !" the giant said and grabbed the palace, the young man's wife and the beggar. He took them to the most distant desert island he could find...

But what about the young man?

Late that night, the young man, the dog and the cat reached the place where the palace had been. But the palace was no more. The young man sat down on a rock and wept for a long, long time.

"Why are you crying ?" asked the dog.

"I'm crying because my palace has disappeared and because my wife was inside. If I had my magical box now, I could repair everything. Why did I leave it behind ? How could I forget !"

"Don't be sad ! We'll find your box for you !" said the cat and the two friends left their master. They knew which direction to take and went straight away towards the sea.

When they reached the sea, they stood still on the shore. The cat listened and the dog sniffed the air. They both looked at the sea and suddenly saw the palace on the far-away island, in the middle of the sea. The cat climbed on the dog's back and they swam to the island. When they reached the island, they entered the palace, the cat climbed in the attic and started to chase the mice. An old rat came up to the cat and asked:

"Why are you chasing my subjects the Mice ? Leave us alone. We've done nothing wrong!"
