The Boy, The Puppy, The Kitten And The Small Frog - Part I

The Puppy
The old man lit his pipe and stretched his feet towards the warm fire. He said:

" Let me tell you a tale of friendship and love. It goes like this :

Once upon a time, there lived a mother and son. The boy went to school just like you do. Every day, when he left for school, his mother gave him a coin and said:

"Take it, son, and buy a white bun from the bakery."

One day, the boy was on his way to school when he saw three kids cruelly whip a small puppy.

"Hey, you !" the boy shouted, "Why're you torturing the poor puppy ?"

"Mind your own business or we'll whip you too !"

The boys were ready to jump at him. The puppy wailed and the boy shouted at the villains again:

"Hey, listen ! I'll give you a coin for the puppy. You can buy a bun with it. What do you say ?"

"That's a good idea..." one of the boys said, "Give me the coin !"

The good boy gave away his coin and took the puppy. That day, he stayed hungry. When he came back home and showed the puppy to his mother, she frowned but said nothing.

The day after, she gave him another coin and sent him to school again. When the boy was passing the bridge, he saw the same boys. This time they had found a small kitten.

They had tied a heavy stone on its neck and were about to push it in the cold river. The kitten mewed and desperately tried to escape. It was helpless like a small baby. The boy felt pity for the kitten and shouted at the naughty children:

"Stop, don't throw it in the water ! Sell it to me for a coin !"

"Give me the coin!" snapped the oldest boy and abandoned the kitten.

They boy took the stone off the kitten's neck, put the shivering creature in his school-bag and went to school. He stayed hungry once more. When he came back home and his mother saw the kitten, she frowned angrily again but once again said nothing.

On the third day, the boy gave his coin for a small frog, that the children were torturing. It had hopped out of the river without the permission of his mother - The Old Frog. When the boy got home that night, he put the frog on the carpet in front of the fireplace, where the kitten and the puppy were playing. This time his mother shouted at him:
