Barefoot and...

In the mean time the following is a listing of herbs useful for ailments that often pop up during the first trimester and throughout the rest of pregnancy. If you have any questions about these herbs or others, please contact me.

Raspberry leaf is used as a uterine tonic and can be drunk through out the whole pregnancy and especially during the last two months up to and including the day of labour. Some sources waiting until the end of the first trimester before starting to drink this tea. Others say it's good to start drinking before you even conceive. I, again, follow the middle ground. Raspberry leaf is a strong tonic to the uterus and my research and personal experience found that during the first few months that the uterus is stretching out raspberry leaf can be very helpful in calming those contractions. It also helps to cleanse the blood of a lot of excess hormones, which are abundant in the first few months.

Herbs communicate with our bodies and listen to what's happening and help out. In this way they become allies to our body. Raspberry leaf will know that at this stage relaxing and stretching is what needed. And it will know that balancing and giving strength to contractions is what's needed at the end of nine months.

If you're having a low risk pregnancy begin drinking this tea as soon as you can. It will help, mildly, with morning sickness, crabby moods, headaches, stretching of the uterus, and balancing your whole being.

Linden Flower as both a tea, and a soak in the tub, is a mild relaxant and cardiovascular tonic.

Dandelion is a mild Liver cleanser and tonic as well as rich in minerals. It acts as a mild diuretic and will help reduce water retention and cleanse the body.
