The Chakra's: The HeartUnconditional love and compassion, two things the world could use a whole lot more of. Both of these emotions live in this chakra, which is located between our lungs at the sternum. The opposites of these emotions can also fester in the Chakra, hate and anger. The Heart Chakra is the first of the ‘higher’ chakra’s, where emotion and thoughts have more control. The ‘lower’ chakra’s, solar plexus, sacral and root, all contain emotions too, but are controlled more through instinct. We feel emotions very deeply in the heart, and so the most blocks can occur here. All of the issues and diseases discussed in the previous articles can also create blocks in heart. The heart is where all things connect, and through which everything flows. The heart organ and lungs are connected to this Chakra. Practicing deep breathing and meditative breathing is very good for this chakra, not to mention every other organ and system in your body. All the blood in our body flows through the heart, and lungs, and so does all nutrients, hormones and oxygen. The heart is not just a machine for pumping our blood. It reacts to the way we feel. Stress, internal or external can trigger the heart to alter its patterns. When we are fearful, or stressed out our hearts can race. Even memories and thoughts of past events can alter heart functioning, thus affecting every cell in our being. Food and drink can significantly changes heart patterns and functions as well. Heart disease and HBP are caused by high intakes of fatty foods. High levels of sugar, white flour and caffeine can also cause heart problems. Smoking affects the lungs and causes damage there and to the Heart Chakra. The Breasts are also connected to this chakra; blocks or dysfunctions of the heart chakra can cause breast cancer and cysts. A lot of a woman’s power is centered in her ability to love in a nurturing and nourishing way. When a woman grows up without that love and hasn’t learned that herself blocks in the breasts can occur. Many women are raised not knowing or allowed to express emotions or feelings. These then get locked in either the heart or sacral, often both. Repressed anger in men often locks up in the root (prostate) or solar plexus, in women it’s in the Heart. Abuse and other relationship traumas also get blocked in the Heart. A very powerful healing tool for all chakra's is called “Witnessing”. It means that the hurt or abuse is witnessed, “Yes, this happened.” When someone witnesses or brings the issue out into the open, it allows the hurt person to begin letting it go.
