Chakra's: The Sacral

The sacral chakra is the 2nd major chakra in the body. It is located slightly above the pubic bone and just below the navel. When you place your hand comfortably on your lower abdomen you've found it.

The sacral is where many, actually I'll be bold and say all women in western culture carry issues. Unless we completely luck out and have both a nurturing childhood and no exposure to western media and ideas then perhaps we will have no issues in our sacral chakra, but that's near impossible these days.

Women are raised to believe that the very essence that makes us women is dirty and evil. Many are raised to believe that our menses are shameful not to be discussed or even mentioned. We take painkillers so we can continue business as usual. If we suffer from PMS we are a whiney bitch. And yet a woman who doesn't suffer from PMS is looked at with remarkable scorn.

The sacral charka is the home of our femininity (and masculinity) it is the center of procreation. This means the creation of new life and the creation of thoughts, feelings and art. This is the center where 'seeds' are planted and nurtured.

The ovaries and testes are nourished from this energy center and they in turn nourish our personal sexuality, which is a powerful creative force. It gives us confidence and a sense of well-being. The same feeling we receive when we rest our hand on our lower abdomen.

The colour of this charka is orange and its sense it taste. A balanced sacral gives us the feeling of total confidence in who we are as a woman, or a man. We are whole and unsullied.

Someone with emotional trauma or any sort of abuse will undoubtedly have blocks in their sacral. These issues can take many months to years to heal. Working with the sacral is a place to start.

PMS, and menstrual pain are also symptoms of sacral blocks. Meditation and good herbs help. See Demystifying Dysmenorrhea (Painful menses)

Once I was having some Reiki done for my cramps and I had this vision of hands digging in rich moist earth, turning up the soil and getting it ready for planting. I could feel the hands digging in my abdomen. The soil was rich and dark and clung to the hands. It was warm. My cramps went away.

The sacral's element is water. When I meditate I visualize water rising up the tree roots to a pool at the foot of my tree. I try to imagine a great pooling of fresh clear water in my abdomen. This pool I see cleansing my sacral chakra as well as myself and my soul. I keep if full and bubbling with sweet clean water.
