Safety Zone

I feel like a hypocrite. Here I am writing about health and healing while I can't even heal my own personal issues. I have an energy block in my safety zone. It is affecting my body, my concentration, my writing, and my life.

I did my level three in Reiki last weekend. I received new attunements and was opened up, willingly, to a new flow of energy. While at this course I had pretty bad cramps. So when we were practicing a new technique we worked on my lower body, the sacral chakra and womb (The safety zone). While my teacher and the other student were working I had a vision of hands digging in the soft warm dirt of a garden. The hands were turning over the soil, getting it ready for planting. It felt good, warm and comforting, and rather symbolic.

Doing the Reiki class stirred up a lot of emotion and past issues. Part of me wants to deal with them and of course because they are painful, part of me doesn't. These issues are about feelings of safety and trust. When they began to manifest in my mind, I shut them down, said 'no, not yet,' and closed it off. The energy wanted to flow through my body to be released. I am afraid to release it, so I've blocked it in my safety zone.

The safety zone is the lower lumbar region of the back, goes across the liliac crest (the top arch of the hipbone), down through the pelvis and then down the legs. The Root Chakra and Sacral Chakra are located in this area.

The root chakra is where are feelings of safety and security rest. Our fight or flight emotions are there. When the root chakra is balanced we feel comfort, safe, stable and in control. When it's not we feel off balance, ungrounded, on edge, and insecure. Our confidence can be tipped over with ease.

The sacral chakra is our emotional center. Our feelings about relationships with others and ourselves are here. Relationships of all kinds, ones that are sexual and not. This is the reproductive center in men and women. Our feelings about the future, our children's and ours rest here. When the sacral is balanced we feel confident and trust in our relationships. We are capable of seeing hope and happiness in our futures. When the sacral is unbalanced we feel fear and mistrust in our relationships. Our futures have a bleak outlook with struggle and strife. There is worry, stress and fear, and in extreme cases the complete loss of hope.
