Reiki and Meditation For Pregnancy

Reiki and other forms of energy work are very helpful in preparing both the body and mind during pregnancy for the eventual birth. The variety of discomforts that a pregnant woman goes through during her 10 months of pregnancy are much to numerous to discuss in detail, rather this article will provide a few simple ideas that will help with all the discomforts a woman can come up with.

And, yes I meant 10 months. Pregnancy is measured from the first day of the last moontime to birth: 40 weeks. Divide that by four weeks a month and you've got 10 months, not nine.

Not only does a woman's body go through amazing physical changes during pregnancy she also changes emotionally, mentally and energetically. By working with the energetic body she can help balance and grow into the changes that are growing within. Doing some simple breathing exercises and visualizations can help her keep her energy in balance. Balance is the key to wellness of the whole body.

Pink Ball Meditation

    This is a personal meditation that I created and started doing after I found out I was pregnant. I start with either of the two meditations we will discuss below and follow them until I reach my abdomen. Then I change the colour to pink; the pink colour of Rose Quartz .

    I visualize a round ball of this colour surrounding and protecting my baby. I visualize it growing larger with each breath, like a balloon or bubble until it surrounds and protects my body as well. When I'm ready to stop the meditation I shrink the ball back down with each breath and eventually it disappears. (Or I fall asleep ;)

Labour, just as its name suggests can be a trial for mom and baby. Both are working hard and both need all the help they can get to remain focused on the labour. Again working with breath and visualizations can be of great benefit. The following meditations can be used before labour and during with only slight modifications. They of course, can also be modified to be used when one isn't pregnant at all. They are very easy to follow and use the breath and visualization to create a peaceful spirit.

Tree Meditation

    This meditation is best done when sitting down, squatting, or otherwise have your feet firmly on the floor.

    1. Sit with your eyes closed, your feet firmly planted on the ground.
